Busking: Pros and Cons

Pros:

• Busking can be a great way to entertain for a built in audience: the people on the street!
• You help provide an aura of music to the streets.
• You can meet fellow musicians, make fans, and gain friends.
• Busking helps performers to handle performance anxiety and dealing with the public.  It builds confidence as a musician.

Cons:

• A performer could potentially be seen as a panhandler, and subsequently looked down upon.
• You can’t please everyone.  Each individual has certain tastes and expectations with music.  One person’s preference may be another person’s garbage.
• You could play for hours and not make a single cent.
• Performers have to deal with all walks of life, including rude or obnoxious listeners.
